- Montessori schools: Many parents appreciate Montessori’s general philosophy, respect for child development and self-guided learning initiative. However, some parents experience rigidity and a blind adherence to particular ‘steps’ a child must go through. However the name Montessori is not legally protected, so a parent needs to judge each “Montessori” school on its programs and merits.
- Waldorf Schools: Parents of gifted children appreciate the approach of Waldorf schools because of their emphasis on the arts and imagination. However the curriculum is very structured and it may be difficult for a gifted child to move ahead. Reading is not taught, nor encouraged before 3rd grade.
